State Legislature starts session
Associated Press
Tuesday, January 13, 2009
COLUMBIA — Gavels are about to fall to signal the launch of the January-to-June legislative session in South Carolina.
The House isn't expected to spend much time in session on Tuesday unless there's a rehash of the rules fight that played out over increased roll call voting in November's organizational session.
The Senate is adopting the similar rules for roll call voting and Republican leaders think they have plenty of votes to get it passed. After that, senators will spend the afternoon electing officers, picking seats and choosing committees.
A House Judiciary subcommittee also is hearing an appeal of November's election. Republican Wallace Scarborough lost his Charleston seat to Democratic Rep. Anne Hutto.
