Police seek suspect in Dec. 21 shooting
Summerville Police are seeking the public's help in locating Ranardo Laval Weldon, 22, of North Charleston, in connection to a Dec. 21 shooting at the Summerville High School ROTC building. Weldon is being charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and unlawful carrying of a pistol.
A police report said a 17-year-old was wounded after being shot on the grounds of the school. No school events were taking place when the shooting occurred. A police report says that the teen, Charles Edgar Whitaker Jr., was hit in the lower back.
During the investigation, Summerville Police identified and arrested Stephen Dexter Wright, 19. He was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill and unlawful carrying of a pistol. Wright was arrested on last week and received a $75,000.00 surety bond. He currently being housed at the Dorchester County Jail.
