The State fills No. 2 news post
COLUMBIA — The State has promoted Steve Brook to managing editor, the newsroom's No. 2 post.
Brook, 54, has been the newspaper's deputy managing editor since 2005. He started at The State in 1991 as executive business editor.
"Steve's knowledge, passion and hard work have strengthened The State's reputation for coverage of government, politics, public policy, education and business," Executive Editor Mark Lett wrote in a memo to staffers Thursday.
"His understanding of commerce, the economy, government, Southern politics, military affairs and human nature, combined with his commitment to thinking ahead and planning, have been powerful ingredients in this newsroom's recipe for results, in print and online," Lett wrote.
After graduating from Furman University, Brook was a reporter and editor at The Telegraph in Macon, Ga., and was a business reporter at the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
At The State, the Georgia native has helped create Lake Murray Magazine and cbj, the newspaper's monthly business magazine.
