Hollywood woman killed in fiery crash

Friday, January 9, 2009

HOLLYWOOD — A 21-year-old Hollywood woman died late Wednesday after her car ran into a dumpster and burst into flames.

Kathryn Megan Powell, 21, died at the scene from carbon monoxide and thermal injuries, said Charleston County Deputy Coroner Bobbi Jo O'Neal. O'Neal said Powell commonly went by her middle name.

Authorities said the crash occurred at about 11:30 p.m. at the T-intersection of Salters Hill and Drayton roads. Charleston County sheriff's Maj. John Clark said Powell ran a stop sign and struck the dumpster while driving a 1980 Mercury Grand Marquis.
