2 arrested in string of car burglaries

MOUNT PLEASANT — Two suspects wanted in connection with a string of car burglaries were arrested Wednesday after crashing their pickup truck into a tree on Mathis Ferry Road.

The suspects fled the scene on foot and were captured by police a short time later, said Sgt. Greg Horton.

The chase began in the Point Pleasant subdivision at 6:20 a.m. when a resident said he interrupted the suspects breaking into his vehicle.

The suspects' names were not available Wednesday.

They fled in the truck and the resident gave chase, Horton said. Police joined in the pursuit when the resident contacted them, he said.

The crash occurred in front of a house next to a roundabout on Mathis Ferry Road. No one was reported injured.

Late Wednesday, police were looking for a third suspect, described as a stocky black male who is about 6 feet tall and has dreadlocks.

He was not wearing a shirt and was wearing camouflage pants.

He was last seen in the parking lot at the Bay Tree subdivision. Area residents were being asked to contact police at 884-4176 if they saw the man.

When the suspects fled after crashing their truck, police set up a perimeter to flush them out of hiding.

They were captured at Patriots Plaza.

Horton said the suspects are being investigated in connection with five other car break-ins Wednesday morning in the same area.

Nearby Wakendaw Lakes subdivision resident Amy McCandless said her car was broken into Wednesday morning but nothing was stolen.
