Welcome centers to close 2 days a week
COLUMBIA — Tourism is a key to South Carolina's economy, but the state will no longer welcome visitors on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department spokesman Marion Edmonds said the agency will close welcome centers on interstate highways those days starting next week.
Edmonds said those are the quietest days of the week and it is the quietest time of the year.
Travelers will have access to restrooms, snack machines and picnic tables. But they won't be able to get brochures, maps and travel advice.

Maybe it is time SCPRT closed the welcome centers permanently since this form of travel assistance is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Consider the alternatives: travel services like travel agencies, AAA, Travelocity, Orbitz and other online electronic programs that can perform the very same services as the welcome centers. Also don't forget those handheld GPS units and all they can do.
