Tuesday, January 6, 2009

North Charleston has named a new fire chief.

Assistant Fire Chief Gregory A. Bulanow will take the helm Feb. 1, when Chief Leonard Judge retires.

Bulanow, 36, a native of Greendale, Wis., is a 12-year veteran of the North Charleston Fire Department. He earned his master's degree in management from Southern Wesleyan University.

Mayor Keith Summey said in a prepared statement that Bulanow has exemplified professionalism, and he is confident the choice will ensure North Charleston's legacy in providing excellent fire services for the community.

Judge, 56, had planned to retire after one year as chief. He has been with the department for 34 years.
