Hanahan Rec organizes walk

The Hanahan Recreation and Parks Department will hold a New Year's Walk at the Hanahan walking trail.

The walking trail is located behind the Senior Center at 3100 Mabeline Road 6:30-8:30 p.m. Jan. 8.

The half-mile trail is lit for night use.

Recreation department officials are touting the event as a good way to get started on any resolutions to improve fitness.

Though it is not required for participation, officials are asking those who take part to consider bringing a donation for one of two local shelters.

Donations will be delivered the following weekend.

Hanahan plans Jan. Snow Bowl

The Hanahan Recreation and Parks Department is planning a snow day fundraiser and community event Jan. 31 at the city's soccer fields.

Dubbed the Snow Bowl, the department plans to bring in 10 tons of snow to be provided by Yard Icing.

To help offset the cost of the event, HRPD is looking for sponsors.

Businesses or individuals can contribute with any of five levels of sponsorship ranging from $75-$1,000. Those interested should make donations by Jan. 23.

A jump castle, food and other family activities are planned for the day.
