Kids' facility My Gym closes in Mt. Pleasant
My Gym, a nationally franchised fitness center for the kiddie set, closed its Mount Pleasant location Wednesday. The gym was located in the Wando Crossing Shopping Center at 1483 U.S. Highway 17.
Owned by Sandra Jamali, My Gym opened in September 2005. The exercise center wrapped physical fitness in a fun, brightly colored package, boasting equipment like a trampoline, monkey bars and a ball pit.
In a statement to the press, Jamali pointed to the waning economy as the cause of the closure.
"I have tried to overcome the odds of the economic environment in the past months. Unfortunately, the demand for our business has not been enough," she said.
Farewell to King
Nancy Koltes at Home, a purveyor of luxury linens, will close its 438 King St. storefront Jan. 13. The closing is the result of a companywide downsizing.
Four of the national chain's seven stores will close early this year. The King Street store opened in October 2007, touting bed linens and loungewear for adults and children. All merchandise is now deeply discounted, with markdowns ranging from 60 percent to 80 percent.
