A woman's 911 call for help about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on St. Johns Avenue. Police found 24-year-old Elijah "Robbie" Jefferson Jr. dead of a single gunshot wound.

A single bullet took Elijah "Robbie" Jefferson Jr.'s life Tuesday night in North Charleston.

Police were called about 8:30 p.m. to an isolated, two-story brick apartment building on St. Johns Avenue near the former Navy base. Inside an end unit, they found the 24-year-old man face down in the living room area, authorities said. Jefferson, of Wando, was shot once and died at the scene, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kelly Myers said.

Jefferson was a man in the throes of new love. He had met a woman who lived in the apartment where he died, said his mother, Ann Shaw, assistant pastor of the House of God All Nation Temple in Huger.

"He said, 'Mommy, I think I met the love of my life,' " Shaw said. "He was happy, and he said, 'Now, everything is going to be OK.' "

Her delight at her oldest child's new joy quickly turned to sorrow Tuesday.

Now the mother, like investigators, is trying to determine what went wrong and who would have wanted Jefferson dead. Police were following leads Wednesday but made no arrest and released no suspect information.

Jefferson was a former Hanahan High School student who loved to cook and worked, on the side, in landscaping during the summer, his mother said.

She described her son as a quiet, easygoing and respectful man. "He didn't know a stranger, and everybody was a friend," she said.

Jefferson was the father of three small children. "They loved and adored him," Shaw said.

He is survived by his mother, of Wando; his father, Elijah Jefferson of Mount Pleasant; three sisters, Kareen German of Mount Pleasant, and Avis Burns and Shanteque Jefferson, both of North Charleston; two sons, Jordan Jefferson, 7, and Elijah Amoni Jefferson, 6, both of Huger; and a daughter, Keyonna Jefferson, 5, of Huger.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rivers Funeral Home of Goose Creek.

This sounds like the fourth love of his life! Why don't they find out what happened before they write a story about a guy that we do not know why he was killed, or what he was involved in.

Another tragedy, I know, but three more children left behind without a father. I am sure one way or another I will help raise them. Probably with a empty-nesters tax or something.

Godspeed to the Three kids. I hope they rise to the top after being given a tough start.

First kid at 17 and with how many mothers. Another life lost and kids without a dad. As mb300sl says same old same old. The stories are all the same just the names and number of moms and kids involved change. Welfare at its' finest.

Sorry for the loss.

You guys really are sad.
First and foremost a life is lost.
Why must you always attack?
Because he is black does it mean that the kids are on welfare? Does this mean that he has different mothers for his children? And if so.....what does it matter now?
There is a loss of a father, a son, and a child of God.
No wonder the world is like it is...the few folks like you who stand in judgment. I am here to tell you that God is not pleased. He is the only judge and he has no respect for person. Welfare recipient, doctor, lawyer, teacher, drug addict..It does not matter. This young man did not take his own life...someone killed him. Be more aware that God is listening to your words!!!

stick your head in the sand and believe this time it's a great upstanding man who was an example to all young men and lived a life style that was going to bring him success and admiration......unfortunately no matter how much lipstick you put on a pig, it is still a pig.

This guy was a gangster hip hop thug. He was involved in a life style that got him killed. He didn't give a damn about his kids, new found love or any one else. If he did he would not be dead. he chose a life style that delivered him to his maker and left all his babies behind.

He was a Punk!

I will have to agree with Truth_TO_Us. I am always fascinated with bloggers. The rush to judgement, the self-righteousness of the comments. I new the young man very well he was not a thug and not a Saint;however he was a very hard working young man. When no else could find a job he had one.
His love for family, to anyone who new him was self evident. Also just to clear up the gossip all of his children are for his high school girlfriend. They are not on welfare and as a matter of fact, are good little students receiving some of best education this state has to offer. Sandnateater, while I agree and understand 100% with your being disgusted and fed up with sinceless violence, your subbliminal prejudice is shameful and ignorant. You fall into the category of an empty wagon making alot of noise without a clue of how to solve the problem or break the cycle of violence. For once on these blogs I would like to see intelligent comments that are solution oriented and not the same old rhetoric.

....I wish we as black people would get as upset with those of us that have kids out of marriage and therefore have to make them, the mother and ourselves unnecessarily struggle just to make it(and that's if we stick around to take care of them at all)...as we get at other people's perception of us...who cares what other people think?? We keep screwing ourselves over!!!!!

sandnateater , I hear you. I lost count how many Bravo Mikes are dead now and its not even June. I bet the suspect(s) were also Bravo Mikes. He was found in the lovely high rent district called St. Johns Avenue near the former Navy base. He sure could have used that $13.00 President Obama is handing out. He could have moved out of that war zone and moved into a better area with that money. I almost forgot Where is Brother Ford,Wendel Gillard,Rev.Darby,The NAACP,The Rainbow Push Coalition. OH I forgot theres no white suspects or police officers involved,so theres no money or cameras rolling just another black man cut down on the streets of North Chuck.Again until the black community wakes up and polices their own communites the death rate among black males will rise and so will the killers who commit such crimes.

Kiss660, I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a family member hurts like hell, and I'm sorry that you've had to read the ignorance of others in your time of tragedy.

Outrage, all three children reside in Huger. So on what do you base the statement, "This sounds like the fourth love of his life"?

Sig, why does it always come down to welfare with you?

To all of you narrow-minded people, I was divorced with two children before I was 24. I was on welfare for a little while after that. But I suppose that's okay with you because I'm white, female, and live in the suburbs, right?

Or is it not okay, and you would rather me and my two children have gone hungry and had no place to live, because the system only teaches people to be dependent upon it?

By the way, I'm currently working a full time job, living in a nice neighborhood, and attending school. My children have clothes to wear and food to eat. And I have been off the system for eight years.

But hey, guess I was just another welfare scumbag, right? If someone broke into my home and killed me, would it still be the "same old same old"?

I agree with a couple of the posters on here...I knew exactly what can of garbage would be opened when the victim was black, 24 years old, and had children...I am fairly impressed that those children had his last name. I had three children by the age of 25, and I'm 40 now...quite frankly, not what I consider a mistake. I'm almost an "empty nester", and couldn't be more content! Exactly who are those of you who say that everyone is usually living on "your taxpayer money"? Why does that ALWAYS have to come up? Is it because he's black? Hell, I'm white, but I'm still wondering what it has to do with anything? There are shootings all the time now...I think those of you who post the same drivel over and over should just copy and paste...your rambling about nothing but your pampered existence, and how the economy is surviving on your paycheck alone is starting to make me nauseous.

Oh hell...I take it all back...he was a meth and coke dealer. I'm done with these articles. CDV high and aggravated in 2006...he was a VIOLENT drug dealer. There we go...I do feel sorry for the kids. Your taxpayer money will probably have to support his kids. I retract everything I said in my last post. If he's the same Elijah Jefferson born in 1984, he's probably better off.

TLG87 (anonymous) says...

Just to clarify, my comment on welfare is not based on color. A friend of mine is a mother of 2 on welfare, and she's white. She doesn't HAVE to be on it, but finds it easier to be than going out and working for her family.

I still feel the same way, regardless of age, sex, race, etc. Maybe if giving that money from my paycheck every week was optional, I wouldn't dislike it as much.
