Tigers still wooing RB from Kansas
Clemson has not yet closed the book on the 2009 recruiting campaign. The Tigers continue to work running back Bryce Brown of Wichita, Kan., one of the few major prospects in the country not to sign last Wednesday.
Clemson recruiters were in touch with Brown late last week, according to his adviser, Brian Butler. Brown is expected to schedule two more official visits this week and also decide on a decision date. He has visited Clemson, Oregon and Missouri. He is looking at Kansas State, Auburn, Tennessee, Miami and Southern Cal for his final visits.
In other recruiting news:
Clemson also will keep watch on LB Eric Fields of Warner Robins, Ga. He was a Tigers commitment but did not sign last week because he had not taken the entrance exam. He took the test Saturday, and once the result is back Fields will know which direction he can go.
The most heralded unsigned in- state prospect is DL Kwame Geathers of Carvers Bay. He's been looking at Georgia and Central Florida. At one time, USC was recruiting him for the offensive line, but he wants to play strictly on defense, according to his coach, James Thompson.
TE Kinard Gadsden-Gilliard, who was committed to S.C. State, did not sign with the Bulldogs after UConn starting showing strong interest in him for basketball. He plans to wait to see how that interest plays out.
Another state commitment, RB Travis Smalls of Cheraw, did not sign Wednesday and is weighing the possibility of going to a prep school.
S.C. State remains in the running for Shrine Bowl RB Larry Raper of Shelby, N.C. He received some late contact from a couple of major programs and is waiting to hear back from them before making a decision.
USC contacted A.C. Flora PK Grant Clayton last week about joining the program as a walk-on. Clayton said that opportunity does interest him, but he wants to visit Navy later this month before making a decision. He has an offer from Navy.
WR Wilkes Goolsby (6-2, 175) of Lincolnton, Ga., plans to walk on at USC this fall. He's also a deep snapper. He attended one of USC's summer camps and in 2008 he caught 42 passes for 662 yards and four TDs.
UGASports.com reported Sunday former Georgia DE Michael Lemon (6-4, 250) plans to walk on at USC this fall. Lemon was dismissed by UGA coach Mark Richt last June after his arrest for felony battery. He played last season at Georgia Military JC, where he was a teammate of four players who signed with USC last week. A USC source Sunday could not confirm the report.
2010 football recruiting
Byrnes DL Corey Miller (6-5, 228) already has offers from Clemson, USC, Florida State, North Carolina, Nebraska, Oregon, Stanford, Tennessee, California, Maryland and Texas A&M. He recently attended junior day at FSU and will go to Clemson on the 21st. Last season, Miller totaled 127 tackles, 8 sacks and 19 tackles for loss. He does not have a favorite.
Byrnes DL Brandon Willis (6-4, 250) also has several early offers including USC, Clemson, UNC, Florida State, California, Texas A&M, Georgia, Tennessee and LSU. He attended FSU's junior day and will go to Clemson on Feb. 21. Right now, he is citing a top five of Florida State, UNC, California, LSU and Georgia. Last season, Willis had 144 tackles with 13 sacks and 24 tackles for loss.
Byrnes WR Toriani Richardson (6-0, 180) is hearing from Clemson, UNC, Georgia, Alabama, Oregon, Florida, Georgia Tech and Tennessee. The strongest interest is from Oregon; he plans to attend a camp there this summer. In '08, he had 36 catches for over 500 yards and 4 TDs.
Calhoun County OL Eric Mack (6-4, 323) picked up an offer Friday from Tennessee. He also has offers from Clemson, USC, UNC, Wake Forest, Kentucky, Alabama, LSU and Florida.
Daniel DB DeAndre Hopkins (6-3 185) picked up recent football offers from Tennessee and West Virginia to go along with earlier ones from Clemson, USC, Georgia Tech and UNC. He's also hearing from Georgia, Alabama and Florida State. Hopkins said USC and Florida have offered for basketball. He plans to attend junior days at Clemson and UNC.
Chester OL Kalon Davis (6-5, 320) was scheduled to attend a junior day at Wake Forest over the weekend and was expecting to pick up an offer from the Demon Deacons. He has an offer from Vanderbilt and is also drawing interest from USC, Clemson, Maryland, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia Tech.
DB Khiry McQuay (5-8, 168) of Tampa, Fla., is very interested in USC and hopes to hear from the Gamecocks and Clemson. He has offers from Duke and Nebraska and he went to junior day at Florida State.
RB Mack Brown (5-11, 192) of Lithonia, Ga., has a top five of USC, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia and Alabama. He has been to junior day at Florida and plans to attend one at USC this month. He also has offers from Georgia Tech, Louisville, Arkansas, Louisiana Tech and Duke. He rushed for 1,712 yards and 21 TDs as a junior.
Clemson is one of 17 offers for WR Anthony Creecy (6-0, 197) of Durham, N.C., but he said he really wants to stay in-state and has UNC, N.C. State and Duke as his top three. Last season, he had 48 catches for 863 yards and five TDs. He's considering going to Clemson for junior day.
Clemson is in the mix with ATH Kyle Baublitz (6-4, 250) of York, Pa. He has offers from the Tigers, Pitt, Boston College, Virginia, Stanford, UConn, Temple, WVU, Michigan State and Illinois. He visited Clemson last summer and met with assistant Billy Napier. He plays linebacker and tight end. Last season, he had 144 tackles along with three TD catches.
QB Phillips Sims (6-2, 215) of Chesapeake, Va., counts offers from Clemson, Alabama, Virginia, Virginia Tech, WVU and Tennessee. He will visit Alabama during his spring break and plans to set up other stops for that week. Last season, he passed for nearly 3,200 yards and 38 TDs.
QB Tyler Brosius (6-3, 220) of Waynesville, N.C., is hearing from USC and Clemson along Wisconsin, East Carolina, N.C. State, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Tennessee and Virginia. He attended a game at Clemson last season. In '08, he passed for 2,335 yards, 25 TDs and 10 interceptions, and he rushed for 7 TDs.
USC has offered twin brothers WR Demarco McNeal (6-0, 170) and DB Demetruce McNeal (6-1, 195) of College Park, Ga. Both also have offers from Auburn. Demarco also is hearing from Oregon, Georgia, Kentucky, N.C. State, Duke, Notre Dame and Ohio State. He plans to attend junior days at Kentucky, Georgia and Georgia Tech. He also is getting interest from UNC, Oregon, Tennessee, Georgia and Vanderbilt. He had 84 tackles, 7 sacks and one pick last season. His top five is USC, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee and Oregon.
Clemson and USC are showing interest in ATH Shaun Kitchens (6-3, 215) of College Park, Ga. He has offers from Ole Miss and Kentucky and is also hearing from Michigan State, WVU, Georgia, Alabama, Virginia and UNC. He plans to attend junior days at Michigan State and Florida. He plays QB, receiver and safety.

Hmm. Felony battery. Seems like a perfect fit for USC. Be sure he gets Laurie's phone number.

Considering Clemson has had a player charged with battery against a woman rather recently I don't know if I'd be tossing stones. Besides he's actually not walking on at SC, he apparently has a scholly offer from another BCS school.

Do this now youmanyo, get rid of all the ones involving violation of team policy/rules and academics. We're not talking about missing workouts or practice or meetings. Also, try to keep it relevant, maybe just since Spurrier's been here, he couldn't control the crap Lou allowed when he was here. And maybe since you have this large amount of data, pull up some Clemson ones, there are two sides to the coin.

Yes CNSYD I blame a lot of the disorder that went on when Lou was here on him, based on testimony from former players like Ryan Brewer and Cory Boyd, the fact that there was an abnormal number of arrests and issues while he was here. I'm not saying Steve hasn't had his share but what's gone on since he's been here isn't that out of the ordinary and he's actually punished the kids when they deserved it. Lou didn't do that.
