MONDAY

Cougars vs. Tarheels party at Club TRIO

The Cougars have a big test Monday. The mighty University of North Carolina is coming to town, and anticipation is high for a potentially huge upset. We can dream, right?

The game is 7 p.m. Monday at the Carolina First Arena, 301 Meeting St. Tickets are sold out, but you can get in the spirit by celebrating at Club TRIO, 139 Calhoun St.

The bar will have food provided by Kickin' Chicken, drink specials, a silent auction, a live band and comedian Bill Davis. Drink specials and food will be from 5:30-7 p.m. The game will be shown at the club, as well.

After the game, Club TRIO will have its "The Afta Game" social with live music from The Larry David Project band.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the door. They are available at Kickin' Chicken in West Ashley, 1179 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. Free admission to former C of C basketball lettermen.

Feed the Need coalition to prepare 400 meals

From noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, 82 Queen will prepare and serve 400 meals at the Neighborhood House, 77 America St., downtown as part of the ongoing Charleston Chefs Feed the Need coalition.

This program began in March and is the first organized relief effort in the nation in which meals are prepared and served by the local hospitality industry throughout the entire year.

Weekly passes to Charleston Fashion Week

With a theme of "Glam Rocks," a cast of celebrity designers in attendance and more than 30 runway shows, Charleston Fashion Week is sure to be a huge event.

Weekly passes to the fourth annual event are now available for a limited time only at www.charlestonfashionweek.com. Week-long tickets for Charleston Fashion Week (March 16-20) are going for $235. This special offer found at www.charlestonfashionweek.com includes a pass to the Tuesday- Friday runway shows, a copy of the 2009 CFW documentary plus access to the Saturday night fashion finale.

The event was named a Top 20 Event for March by the Southeast Tourism Society. Nightly tickets will go on sale after Friday.

Charleston magazine has confirmed 2009 Project Runway finalist and 2008 CFW Emerging Designer, Carol Hannah Whitfield will be in attendance and will debut her collection during the Bridal Couture Show.

Kurtis Lamkin kicks off Litchfield Tea & Poetry series

Kurtis Lamkin, a local poet who plays the Kora, a 21-string West African instrument, is the first poet for the Litchfield Tea and Poetry Series at the Waccamaw Higher Education Center, 160 Wilbrook Blvd. on Pawleys Island.

He has performed internationally at festivals and concerts halls as well as on radio and television shows. His animated poem "The Foxes Manifesto" aired for two years on PBS. His poems have been published in numerous anthologies and he is currently touring with his latest CD, "Magic Yams."

He will perform at 3 p.m. Jan. 7. Admission is free. Call 349-4032.

TUESDAY

Chris Botti and A Day of Jazz in Charleston

The Skipp Pearson Jazz Foundation is bringing Chris Botti to town for A Day of Jazz in Charleston on Tuesday at Charleston Music Hall, 37 John St.

There will be a student performance, "The Little Boy Who Hated Jazz," at 10:30 a.m. and a lecture and discussion will be 2-4 p.m. at the Charleston Music Hall. Both events are free.

Botti will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $75.
