Paparazzi New Year's Ball
Charleston's red carpet rolls out this year for L.A.'s favorite celebrities at the Paparazzi New Year's Ball 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Hosted by the Vue at Ripley Point, this alluring theme encourages all guests to come dressed as rock stars or rappers, socialites or celebrities, politicians or bands to enjoy a night of fame and excess. Experience all the over-the-top glitz and glamour of L.A. while not forgetting the drama and scandal of Hollywood.
The party features scheduled performances by seven-member funk and rock-'n'-roll sensations Super Deluxe as well as Charlotte DJ Midnight Ace and virtual DJ ESP, playing everything from disco and hip-hop to progressive house and dub step dance beats.
A beer and liquor open bar will be available for patrons. Guests also may enjoy a big-screen ball drop, champagne toast at midnight, cash prizes for best individual and best couple costume, and a VIP section for the ultra party-goers. Sponsors include Carolina Night Life and Palmetto Shots.
Tickets are $75 before Dec. 31 and $100 the day of the event. Tickets are priced for general admission and can be purchased at Merch Underground (499 King St.) or by going to www.etix.com. Family-friendly (and free) NYE celebrations
Those looking for a family-friendly way to celebrate the new year have a lot of options.
Marion Square will be the site of fun 4-10:30 p.m. New Year's Eve with Happy New Year, Charleston. Enjoy this alcohol-free event, which will include live jazz, gospel and classical music, as well as African dance, food, children's activities and more. Call 724-7305 for information. Fireworks will be at 10:15 p.m. Admission is free.
Also, try the NYE Family Party 5:30-10 p.m. at Night Heron Park, 4000 Sea Forest Drive, Kiawah Island. There will be food, live music, children's activities, party favors, fireworks and more. Call 768-6001 or visit www.kiawahresort.com for info on this free event.
There also will be a free New Year's Eve concert 7-8:30 p.m. at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 3222 Middle St., Sullivan's Island. Blue Restaurant at the Folly Beach Holiday Inn, 1 Center St., will host its NYE Beach Party for $75. Band of Horses
The Band of Horses has a knack for announcing its shows at the last minute. Catch the popular band at the Music Farm on Monday. Tickets are $18 in advance for the 9 p.m. show.
