N. Charleston man died in wreck

Friday, December 18, 2009

The identity of a man who was killed Wednesday in a one-car wreck on Coleman Boulevard was released Thursday.

Joseph Scott, 81, of North Charleston, was killed on impact, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kelly Myers said.

According to Mount Pleasant police, Scott was driving a sport-utility vehicle that hit a curb and went off the road on Coleman Boulevard near the Shem Creek bridge about 7:30 p.m. The SUV struck a utility pole and two trees.

Motorists told police the man was driving too fast and erratically on the Ravenel Bridge before the wreck, police said.

An autopsy is planned to help determine the cause of Scott's death, Myers said.
