Skeletal remains of fetus found
CONWAY -- A 16-year-old girl has been arrested after her mother found the skeletal remains of a fetus.
Horry County Police Sgt. Robert Kegler told multiple media outlets that the teen's mother called police Monday after seeing pictures of the fetus on her daughter's cell phone.
Kegler said the woman recognized the Conway home where they used to live. She went there, found the remains, brought them to her Surfside Beach home and called police.
A television station reported that Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick said an autopsy showed that the fetus was stillborn at less than 20 weeks old.
Kegler said the fetus was buried in May. The teen was charged Monday with desecration of human remains.
She is being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia.
