Fundraiser to fight ALS set Thursday
Friends of Laura Lyn Guerry, who died last month at age 48 after a 10-month battle with a paralyzing sickness, are trying to raise money to help others facing the disease.
The sickness is ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
The fundraiser is called 'Rollin' for a Cure: 1st Annual ALS Bunco Night.'
Bunco is a dice game. The event also includes a silent auction and door prizes.
The event starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fraternal Order of Police building at 1320 S. Oak Drive in Moncks Corner. Guerry lived in nearby Pinopolis.
People will be asked for a $15 minimum donation.
'Laura Lyn's wish was to gain awareness about ALS and to help fund the local ALS chapter,' said Denise Philips, development coordinator for the ALS Association South Carolina Chapter. 'Unfortunately, Laura Lyn lost her battle against ALS on Nov. 11. Her friends are determined to continue on with her fight to gain awareness and raise necessary funding.'
ALS is a progressive, neurodegenerative muscular disease with no known cause or cure.
