Local Democrats who might not want to attend U.S. Rep. Henry Brown's Thursday Town Hall meeting can still have their questions about health care reform answered that night.

The Charleston County Democratic Women said they will hold their own educational Healthcare Reform meeting from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn Riverview restaurant, 301 Savannah Highway.

Brown, R-S.C., announced earlier this week that he will hold his own town hall meeting on that date, too.

His forum begins at 7 p.m. at the Charleston Area Convention Center in North Charleston.

Chris Wilkerson said Brown's plans caught the Democratic Women's group off guard. "If anybody had known Henry Brown was going to do it, I might have planned something else for the night," she said.

The Democratic Women's program will feature local health care professionals, including nurse Sandra Casper and doctors Richard Furlanetto and Thaddeus Bell. The gathering is a dinner meeting, not a town hall, but those attending will have a chance to pose questions.

The group's dinner meeting costs $20 per person. For more information or to make a reservation, call 881-6532 or 469-8050 or send an e-mail kroghl@aol.com.

Republicans (such as DeMint) were criticized for having events where a meal was offered for $$$ (Breakfast on Daniel Island; Lunch at Myrtle Beach). No outrage expressed here, though. Typical Dem double standard.
