Fund set up to help pay for children's funerals

A fund has been established to help pay the funeral costs of two children who died Monday in a mobile home fire in North Charleston.

People can make donations to the Robinson Family Fund at any Bank of America branch.

The funds will go to help Amy Robinson pay for the funerals of her 3-month-old daughter, Tatyanna Green, and her 2-year-old son, Anthony Lazo.

Both children were inside Robinson's Lakewood Street single-wide when fire engulfed the home Monday afternoon. The children died of smoke inhalation, authorities said.

Robinson, who escaped the fire with her 4-year-old daughter, Savannah Barton, said she tried to rescue the other children but the fire was too intense. She lost her belongings in the blaze and cannot pay for the funerals, she said. Details of the funerals have not yet been set.

Investigators still are probing the fire and have not released a possible cause. Robinson has blamed the fire on an overturned lamp.

Sharon Bond, a nurse midwife at the Medical University of South Carolina Women's Health, said she and her co-workers set up the fund to help Robinson. They cared for her during her pregnancies and wanted to help in her time of need, she said.

Also, the T-Bonz restaurant on Market Street plans to pick a date when workers can donate a percentage of their tips to the family, and T-Bonz will match the amount raised.

What happens to the funds raised that exceed the funeral costs?
I am not trying to be callous but until we hear the outcome of the investigation, I do not want my money to be spent on anythong other than teh funerals.
Hopefully any extra money will go into a trust fund for the surviving child.

suec, I wouldn't say that you are being callous. Yours is a legitimate concern. I hope that any money left over would go into a trust for Savannah as well.
