Christopher Swetckie: St. James-Santee Elementary
Age: 34.
Family: Wife, Christy; three sons: Will, 4; Ben, 2; Alex, 11 months.
Experience: Principal at McClellanville Middle School; assistant principal at Cario Middle School; teacher at Moultrie Middle School and Whitesides Elementary School.
Education: B.S. elementary education from the College of Charleston, 1998; M. Ed. educational leadership from The Citadel, 2003.
Why I wanted to go into education: My father was a teach-er and school administrator in Connecticut and I always enjoyed being around his classroom and school when I was a child. I have always had a passion for teaching, and I knew I could make learning fun for children.
Something I've always wanted to learn: How to scuba dive.
Something important life has taught me: Industriousness and enthusiasm are the cornerstones of success.
Something most people don't know about me: I used to dress up as Metric Man when I taught science at Moultrie Middle.
Something my parents always told me: Work hard and tell the truth.
Fond childhood memory: My father would take my brother and me to baseball games at Yankee Stadium.
A specific goal I hope to accomplish during this first year: We will increase student reading levels by making literacy our top priority and engaging the parents and community to help us achieve this goal.
