Diane Ross: Goodwin Elementary School
Family: Divorced. Two children, Bianca and Carlos Dunlap.
Experience: Sixteen years in education.
Education: B.S. in business education, South Carolina State University; master's in special education, business education and educational leadership, The Citadel; doctoral program in educational leadership and program evaluation with Nova Southeastern University.
Why I wanted to go into education: I love working with children and families. Education is our key to a successful future.
Something I've always wanted to learn: I would love to be able to speak French fluently.
Something important life has taught me: Always put God first in everything that I do.
Something most people don't know about me: I have completed four marathons for the Leukemia Society of America and raised more than $15,000 to help with research.
Something my parents always told me: Make sure you get a good education and respect your teachers.
Fond childhood memory: My first-grade teacher, Mrs. Coffman. She made me feel special.
A specific goal i hope to accomplish during this first year: I hope to increase parental engagement at Goodwin Elementary. Research shows that parents who are actively engaged in their child's education improve attendance, discipline and achievement in the school.
