Age: 56

Family: Wife, Sherry; and three stepsons, Jared, Jack and Christiaan.

Experience: Principal, West Caldwell High, Lenoir, N.C., 2007-09; principal, North Charleston High, 2005-07.

Education: A.A., Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, N.C.; B.A., University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill; M.A., The Citadel.

Why I wanted to go into education: I enjoy teaching and coaching young people.

Something I've always wanted to learn: Play tennis.

Something important life has taught me: Every child has the capacity to learn.

Something most people don't know about me: I am an avid North Korea watcher for the past 20 years.

Something my parents always told me: My mother always told me no matter how hard you think you might have it, there is always someone worse off.

Fond childhood memory: Playing baseball in the backyard with my father.

A specific goal I hope to accomplish during this first year: Learn as much data as I can about our school.
