A wreck with injuries in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 26 slowed traffic Wednesday morning.

All eastbound lanes on Interstate 26 have reopened following a three-car wreck at 7:05 a.m. near the Ashley Phosphate Road exit.

The wrecks occurred between the 208 and 209 mile markers.

Eastbound lanes were completely blocked and only one westbound lane was open for about 40 minutes while officials waited for a helicopter to take an injured motorist to a local hospital. Eventually two lanes were opened but there have still been significant delays.

Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bob Beres said one wreck happened when a car overturned. The second wreck involved two cars.

The wrecks are under investigation.

I was wondering why traffic was an absolute breeze today on 26---eastbound from Goose Creek....I was wondering if there was no school today. Lo and behold there was a clog.

I sure hope the person that left on the helicopter is going to be okay. I never go to work on I26 its too much of a headache when there are no wrecks!

MsPiggy I was wondering the same thing. Then the traffic update came on the radio. I actually made it to MUSC in 20 minutes this morning. Usually takes me upwards of 45 minutes at 8 in the morning. I hope the motorist that had to be air lifted makes a speedy recovery.
