Facebook tiff leads to real fight

An online tiff between two Facebook friends turned physical Saturday, leaving a Charleston man with a cut to his eye.

The 50-year-old victim told Charleston police that he and his 20-year-old niece exchanged "not nice" comments on the popular social networking Web site, prompting his 46-year-old brother to confront him at his Cartwright Street house about 1:15 p.m.

The victim said his brother told him, "You'd better shut your mouth or I'll kill you," and then threatened to punch him in the eye, according to a police report.

The victim told his brother, "Go ahead," at which point his brother struck him in the eye with a fist, police said. The victim fell to the floor, and the suspect sat on his chest and attempted to punch him about 10 more times, the report states.

The victim said he was able to block most of the blows, but suffered a 2-inch gash on his left eyebrow. The man complained of other pain to his sternum and ring finger but refused treatment from Berkeley County EMS.

Police were unable to locate the suspect at the time of the report.

If only FB was banned, then we would be safe. For the children!

The niece was probably posting inappropriate pictures. Have you seen the pictures these kids post? And then they will accept friend requests from their friends, family members, school teachers, pastors, etc.

I don't see a problem here. When the brother told him he will punch him in the eye, he said I quote “Go Ahead". So he got punched. What’s the problem?

See when people tell you to hit them, and they get hit, they won’t to call the cops. Well you gave me permission to hit you.

I don't know much about face book. I don't have one and have no interest in having one. I know my 18 year old has one, and her big cousins will not put up with outrages stuff on her page.

The victim must be pretty slow. They guy told him where the punch would land, and he told him when to do it, but still couldn't block it.

If a man gives you permission to hit him, he shouldn't have the right to press charges. And it's sad that these are brothers fighting.

When they were young, those four years gave the older brother an advantage. Now the age difference appears to be working against him. May be time for a "beer summit."
