Catching crickets inside home

How can homeowners deal with crickets that get inside?

Use sticky traps to catch them. Dry damp areas with a fan or dehumidifier. Avoid debris and clutter.

--As with other pests, the best strategy for controlling crickets is to keep them from coming inside.

--Caulk and repair cracks and gaps in foundations, around doors, basement windows and other entry points.

--Keep weeds and grass cut. Remove wood piles. Report weedy vacant lots to the local government.

--Outside lights attract crickets, so turn them off or use yellow lights, which are less attractive to insects than white, neon or mercury vapor lights.
