Book signings

--The Poetry Society of South Carolina will present a reading and book signing featuring Vera Gomez, Mary Hutchins Harris, Tim Harkins, Terri McCord, Ray McManus and Katherine Williams at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Charleston County Public Library auditorium downtown.

--Allegra Huston, daughter of famed director John Huston, will sign copies of "Love Child: A Memoir of Family Lost and Found" following a reading at 5 p.m. Thursday at Blue Bicycle Books downtown.

--Ann B. Ross, author of "Miss Julia Delivers the Goods," will sign copies of her book at 7 p.m. Thursday at the West Ashley Barnes & Noble.

--Janna McMahan, author of "The Ocean Inside," will sign copies of her book from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Mount Pleasant Barnes & Noble.

--Summerville author Michelle Adams has published the young adult novel "Sarah Boone: A Lowcountry Girl" (Pellican) in concert with illustrator and New Orleans native Jane Brewster.

--University of South Carolina professor Dr. Robert Brinkmeyer is the 2008 winner of the Brooks-Warren Award for Outstanding Literary Criticism for his book, "The Fourth Ghost" (LSU Press).

--David S. Shields, McClintock Professor of Southern Letters at the University of South Carolina, is the editor of "Pioneering American Wine" (University of Georgia Press), which recounts the life and work of Nicholas Herbemont (1771-1839).

--Doubleday has announced a publication date of Aug. 11 for "South of Broad," Pat Conroy's first novel in 14 years.
