COLUMBIA — Arkansas starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel (5-0) limited the Gamecocks to three runs on seven hits and Scott Lyons and Zack Cox each homered as the Razorbacks defeated South Carolina 6-4 in the first of a three-game SEC series at Carolina Stadium.
Arkansas (21-5, 9-1) was retired in order into the fourth inning when Lyons tied the game with a solo homer. Jacob House later drove in Ben Tschepikow with a two-out single for a 2-1 lead. The lead grew to 3-1 in the fifth on Chase Leavitt's RBI single.
The long ball made it 6-1 when Cox belted a three-run shot to right-center.
South Carolina (19-9, 4-6) mounted a rally in the late innings with a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh. In the sixth inning, Carolina loaded the bases with two outs with Justin Dalles driving in a run on a line drive that hit the third base bag. The Gamecocks pulled within 6-4 in the seventh inning on Whit Merrifield's two-run homer to right center, his fifth home run of the season.
USC's DeAngelo Mack extended his hitting streak to 10 games, but an 0-for-5 day ended Jackie Bradley Jr. 's hitting streak at 11.
