Commerce Dept. honors CSO's Stahl
Charleston Symphony Orchestra Music Director David Stahl was honored by the S.C. Department of Commerce on Saturday.
The Palmetto Ambassador Award was presented to Stahl by Jack Ellenberg, deputy secretary for new investment for South Carolina, during the opening-night performance of the Merrill Lynch Masterworks Series at Gaillard Auditorium.
Ellenberg said the reason Stahl was chosen for the honor was that: "Maestro Stahl has been instrumental in assisting the Department of Commerce in recruiting foreign direct investments and jobs to South Carolina. His commitment to our state and his willingness to promote its qualities have furthered recruitment efforts abroad and have enhanced relationships with some of our largest German investors."
Stahl, who also conducts an orchestra in Munich, Germany, a portion of the year, is celebrating his 25th anniversary as conductor of the CSO.
