'Army Wives' cast to help at benefit

Staff report
Friday, September 26, 2008

Cast members from the locally filmed Lifetime TV series "Army Wives" will star in a fundraising event Saturday to help North Charleston's mayor and housing authority build a new emergency shelter.

Proceeds will go to SOLD, which stands for Sustainable Opportunities for Life & Dreams. SOLD provides emergency shelter and transitional homes for women and children. Its $3.6 million, 148-bed shelter off North Rhett Avenue will be run by North Charleston Housing Authority and isn't expected to open until 2010.

The fundraising event will be at Quarters H and I on the corner of Navy Way and Everglades Drive starting at 6 p.m. Hor d'oeurves and cocktails will be served. The benefit, originally scheduled for earlier this month, was postponed because of Tropical Storm Hanna.

Tickets for the event cost $125 each, and a portion of the price is tax-deductible. To buy a ticket, call 740-2588 or send an e-mail to SOLD@northcharleston.org.
