Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music.

Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music.

The Revival Tour

Side Dummy Records built a name for itself beginning in the mid-'90s with such acts as MxPx, Suicide Machines, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Gogol Bordello, Piebald and Flogging Molly gracing its roster.

Now, the label is taking another innovative move with the announcement of "The Revival Tour." The nation wide tour will feature former Hot Water Music frontman Chuck Ragan, Ben Nichols of Lucero, Tim Barry of Avail, and several guest musicians that recorded with Ragan on his upcoming solo effort Bristle Bridge. Ragan, Nichols and Barry all hail from acclaimed and influential punk/rock bands but maintain that The Revival Tour will focus on a more intimate performance of their solo material. All three have solo careers that showcase an Americana/folk side to the punk heroes. "The Revival Tour" rolls into the Holy City on Friday.

Kansas City duo

Adam Lee and Johnny K certainly aren't wasting any time with their new project Adam Lee and the Dead Horse Sound Company.

The duo formed this past Spring in Kansas City and almost immediately released its debut album "Ghostly

Fires" and set off on a 20-state East Coast tour. The band's classic country twang is diluted with an undertone of indie/rock and Americana. With Adam Lee sounding like a murky mix between Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, the Kansas City pair have struck an eclectic chord with fans of country and indie music alike.

The band will perform at the Village Tavern Tuesday with Evan Harris & The Driftwood Motion and White Rhino. Tickets are $6 at the door or at village-tavern.com.

Milhouse

Charleston-based quartet Milhouse first floated to the surface from the underworld of garage bands and house party jam bands a in 2005 with the release of its sophomore album "Tales of Woe and Yay."

The band of childhood friends showcase a captivating blend of classical instrumentation with more contemporary styles ranging from jam band to alternative rock. Revealing heavy influences from Keller Williams light and airy guitar looping and Widespread Panic's percussion-heavy style, Milhouse doesn't shy away from their music idols.

The band made the trek to Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, N.C., early this year to record its six song EP, "A Collection of Rare Birds," with esteemed producer Danny Kadar (My Morning Jacket, Iggy Pop, Avett Brothers).

The result was a very raw, much more serious and slightly darker album than 2005's "Tales of Woe and Yay" that shows the young quartet's growth as songwriters and musicians and explores the members' musical diversity on a much greater scale than previously heard.

Milhouse will perform Friday with Gaslight Street at The Windjammer, 1008 Ocean Blvd., IOP. Tickets are $8 available at The Windjammer the night of the show. Doors open at 9, the show starts at 10. For more information, visit www.the-windjammer.com.

Shane Pruitt

At only 29, Spartanburg native Shane Pruitt has already established himself as one of the most prodigious blues guitarists around.

His eloquently natural style is as smooth as Mike Bloomfield and as fierce as Stevie Ray Vaughn. With sizzling finger work and searing vocal tendencies, Pruitt is proving to be a lasting phenomenon on the local blues scene.

Pruitt will perform tonight with Hoekstra at the Tin Roof, 1117 Magnolia Road. Call 571-0775 or visit www.myspace.com/westashleytinroof for more information.

Bryce Donovan: It Beats Working...

A couple of weekends ago, my wife and I went hiking (notice I took my wife with me) (and we actually went hiking) in the mountains of North Carolina. It was during that time, surrounded by vast amounts of open space and the gentle sounds of nature, that I had a chance to reflect on some things, most notably, how much I missed cable television.
