Sesame Burgers and Beer in North Charleston is a treat on many levels.
For starters, in addition to bars and restaurants like Madra Rua, The Mill and Evo Pizza, Sesame is a welcome addition to the newly revitalized Park Circle, where a combination of new businesses and new neighbors have made old North Charleston one of the most fresh and attractive communities in the Lowcountry.
Sesame's clientele runs the gamut from young to old, party time to family time and everything in between. On my first visit I was greeted by bartenders and waitresses I have known from other restaurants and bars around Charleston and upon their recommendation I tried the house specialty. Frankly, it was the best burger I've ever had, hands down. No exaggerations are necessary, as upon visiting, their burgers' rich quality and taste will speak for itself. Sesame grinds their own beef and makes their own ketchup and mustard, in house.
When it came to their second house specialty — beer — Sesame seemed to have all of its bases covered. The tap and bottle selection is extensive with nine domestic and almost 40 import and specialty beers available.
In addition to familiar favorites, Sesame offers Coast, a locally brewed, organic beer whose facilities are located near the old Charleston Naval Base, and its current beer of the month is "Circus Boy," a pale, wheat ale produced by Vermont's Magic Hat Brewing. I happen to prefer bourbon to beer, but for brew connoisseurs, Sesame's selection seems to be a big hit.
As a Hanahan native who spends most evenings in and around downtown, at Sesame I ran into both old friends from the North Area and current friends from the peninsula and beyond.
This alone is a testament to Sesame's high quality and after just one visit, it was already apparent that in terms of burgers, beer and a bright future, the quaint, little bar/restaurant in North Charleston seems to have stumbled upon the perfect recipe.
