HEAD2HEAD TRIVIA

Thursday, September 11, 2008

Last week, I was invited to a Mustache Party.

I have to admit, I was somewhat tempted to go except that it was the night Tropical Storm Hanna was supposed to hit, and I had to stock up on provisions that I ended up not even needing. The mustache party got me thinking of all the famous figures known for their 'staches which ended up being this week's trivia.

Robert Ludlow is the reigning champion of all things trivia, and this week he faces challenger and carpenter Drew Parrish.

1. What snack food icon sports a large 'stache on its label?

2. What famous game show host shocked the world when he appeared without his signature mustache in 2001?

3. This director of "camp" movies grew his pencil-thin mustache in honor of Little Richard.

4. Marcel Duchamp was known for his parody of what famous painting when he added a mustache to it?

5. This artist's flamboyantly oiled mustache is as avant garde as his paintings.

6. This former wrestler's signature look included a bandanna, yellow and red colors and a big blonde 'stache.

7. One of the greatest writers of American literature, Samuel Clemens sported a thick mustache and used what pen name?

8. This '80s television character got to drive a red Ferrari around Oahu while he solved cases as a private investigator.

9. This Belgian detective with a meticulous mustache is the only fictional character to have received an obituary in the "New York Times" when he died.

10. Seen in movies and graphic novels, this mustache is usually worn by the villain and is named for a fictional character of Asian origin.

1. Well, there's Mr. Peanut and the Pringles guy. I'll go with Pringles.

2. Alex Trebek.

3. I know exactly who this is. I just can't think of his name.

4. I have no idea.

5. Dali.

6. Hulk Hogan.

7. Mark Twain.

8. Magnum P.I.

9. Um... um... um. I'm gonna tell you the truth, I really don't know.

10. I can't remember.

1. Could Cap'n Crunch be considered snack food?

2. The guy from Jeopardy, Alex Trebek.

3. Oh man, I'm blanking on his name.

4. No clue.

5. Salvador Dali.

6. Hulk Hogan.

7. Melville.

8. Thomas Magnum.

9. Where's the easy questions?

10. Fu Manchu.

Once again, Ludlow squeaks out a win against his challenger which now makes it three in a row for him. We'll see if he can make it to four.

1. Pringles.

2. Alex Trebek.

3. John Waters.

4. The Mona Lisa.

5. Salvador Dali.

6. Hulk Hogan.

7. Mark Twain.

8. Magnum P.I.
