MAYESVILLE — A former Lee County sheriff's deputy who police say forced a 9-year-old child to perform sex acts on him at gunpoint has been arrested.
Fifty-six-year-old Wayne Atkinson of Mayesville was being held Wednesday at a Sumter County detention center, charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
A phone number for Atkinson was not published, and a woman at the jail said she didn't know if he had a lawyer.
Also, 51-year-old Shirley Jackson is charged with unlawful conduct toward a child. Investigators think the child was Jackson's foster child.

Although police are supposed to set examples, especially when it comes to the law, we need to remember they are human and commit crimes just the same as all the other law breakers do. He is the lowest form of a human and deserves to be punished to the max. It is so hard to weed these kind of people out of the system because they are so good at covering up their illicit behavior until somebody files a charge on them. BY then know telling how many people it has happeneded to and I am sure not everyone comes forward because it is so hard to deal with and make public. So much for him taking an oath to uphold the law. I hope the child will recover, it's so very sad when this happens.

I hope he gets 3 times worse than the child got by him, when he goes to prison. He won't have a gun to protect him then and probably can't out power Big bubba tha's waiting for fresh meat .

Marianne0558-I hope to God thats not his old address and someone else lives there now.Good investigative work :)These two POSs need to be executed.To think that this poor child was in foster care is so sad.This child has now been betrayed and wronged by more than one gaurdian they trusted.

I'm all for putting him in danger (if, in fact, he did do this), but his family (if he has one) is another thing. Thanks for the investigative work, Magnum! :-)

Good job Marianne0558!I agree with Lovely_One,I'm shocked they haven't deleted it yet.I hate to say it but people who do such sick horrible things would be less likely to do them(or at least again) if the community confronted them and judges held them more accountable **disclaimer** I have not and I am not promoting any vigilantism.

All of the information is public or I wouldn't have been able to find it. It really wasn't that hard at all. And it will be made even more public if reporters show up and ask all kinds of questions to everyone.
Especially public when he has to register as a violent sex offender. You can go to the site http://www.familywatchdog.us/
You can look up addresses to see registered sex offenders that live near you. You can also check a name to see if it is a registered sex offender. You can click on the map to see the mugshot, charges, address of each offender in your area.
I don't condone angry mobs, while I do approve of showing the people in the community what this person looks like and where he lives, just to give other possible victims the chance to stand up.

The Lee County Sheriff's department says that Atkinson had not worked there in around 15 years, but they didn't know why he left.
The 9 year old girl was a foster child of Atkinson's girlfriend, Shirley Jackson, 51. Jackson also has charges against her. The charges stem from the fact that Jackson knew of his RSO status and the girl had disclosed to her that he had molested her before, yet she continued to drive the child to his home and leave her there.

This is beyond sickening. They know that these people cannot be rehabilitated. Take the time to read actual interviews with sex offenders, and they will tell you how they lie in jail and fantasize about what they will do when they get out. It is most disgusting.
The law will not allow them to be executed, so remove their genitalia, keep them in prison, and let them suffer many, many long nights.
I have no tolerance for these people.

The foster system places a child in the home of the girlfriend.
The girlfriend knew her boyfriend was a registered sex offender. The girlfriend still took the child to the RSO's house and left her there alone. The child told the girlfriend the RSO had molested her, and the girlfriend STILL took her and left her at the RSO's house alone.
Put both of these perverts in jail until their behinds literally turn inside-out from all the justice they will be served.

Just FYI... This is outside the P&C's circulation area and was probably pulled verbatim--and on deadline--from a faxed Sumter Co. Sheriff's Office report. Often incident reports lack the latest info because LEOs (like many reporters), are working against the clock without enough resources. The P&C has drastically cut personnel and most reporters now have several beats to cover. When a reporter is on deadline and an editor screams, "Go with what you got!" he will go with what he got

What really bothers me is that this child will probably never trust anyone again. Ever.
