Civilian police worker arrested

Staff report
Monday, September 8, 2008

Charleston police on Sunday arrested one of their own civilian employees on a domestic violence charge.

Robert L. Cochran, 60, of Martin Street in Ravenel, was taken to the Charleston County Detention Center and placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation, according to Charles Francis, public information officer for the Charleston Police Department.

Francis said Cochran's job with the police department is to transfer prisoners to the Charleston County jail.

If there were not a separate standard for politicians and government employees regarding criminal activity, the police would be arresting a lot more people that they have jails to hold.

I once knew a young man who spent 6 months in jail for stealing a Magic Marker. Government employees steal tons of stationary, pens, computers, printer paper, copies, etc. every year. If they all brought this stuff like the rest of us, you would have to open 5 times as many Staples, Wal-Marts and Office Max stores to keep up with the demand.

But government workers take their ethics from politicians and they are the worst of the lot.

He's not an officer, just a transport civilian who transported prisoners to and from the county jail. So what if there isn't more "detail"? Obviously the charge speaks for itself (domestic violence). NO ONE is above the law so don't even try to say it.
