While many people go to sports bars to watch their favorite teams, one doesn't expect to see actual athletes in the bar; just food, beer and TV. No sweat (literally).
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Weekend's Pub in Goose Creek, where every eight weeks, Old School Championship Wrestling holds pro wrestling matches.
Walking into Weekend's one will find a long bar, multiple TVs, pool tables and all the bells and whistles one might expect from any bar.
On the Sunday evening I visited, Weekend's also featured former NWA World Heavyweight Champion "Wildfire" Tommy Rich, who performed for a crowd of about 400, which is not a bad turnout for a group of mostly local and regional, independent wrestlers trying to make it to the big time.
My favorite bar food is chicken wings and since I was settled in for an evening of rasslin', I figured to go all out: Buffalo wings, beer and brawling. The hot wings were probably some of the best I've had, and my Miller Lite was ice cold. This is always a big plus for any bar. Weekend's also features salads, sandwiches, pizza, steak and daily dinner specials.
Weekend's is a family environment, making it an ideal place to hold pro wrestling events, which take place in a large room adjacent to the bar. I was informed by the owner that some rock concerts will be taking place there in the near future.
If down-home, casual bars are your cup of tea, Weekend's Pub delivers. And if rasslin' - bizarre characters, lots of yelling and simulated combat - is your idea of a good time, I know of no other bar in the Lowcountry to find it.
