This past weekend was the start of something that a lot of people here in the South have been anticipating for months.

College football season.

Southeastern Conference fans are probably the most passionate about their teams as any fans I've met, so this week's quiz is for them.

New trivia champ, Robert Ludlow, is going up against Courtney Bishop, who teaches preschool.

QUESTIONS

1. Which university has won the most SEC championships?

2. In 1992 the conference went from 10 to 12 teams by adding which two teams?

3. Which of these teams — Georgia Tech, Clemson, Tulane, Auburn — was not an original member of the SEC?

4. When Peyton Manning's Tennessee Volunteers won the conference championships in 1997, what team did they beat?

5. Which university won three SEC championships in a row between 1980-1982?

6. What is Vanderbilt's mascot?

7. Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is commonly called what?

8. What conference did South Carolina belong to before joining the SEC?

9. The winner of the annual LSU-Arkansas football rivalry game wins what trophy?

10. What is the only school in the SEC to no longer have an "official" mascot?

ROBERT'S ANSWERS

1. I've got to say Florida.

2. Arkansas and LSU.

3. Clemson.

4. Alabama.

5. I have no idea. Georgia?

6. The Cowboys.

7. Gator Stadium.

8. No idea.

9. The Golden Boot.

10. Ole Miss.

COURTNEY'S ANSWERS

1. I'm going with Florida.

2. I know one of them is South Carolina, and the other is ... hmm ... Vanderbilt?

3. Tulane.

4. I don't know. Maybe, Georgia?

5. Alabama.

6. Commodores.

7. The Swamp.

8. Can I get half a point for saying what conference it wasn't in?

9. Oh jeez.

10. I'm trying to go through them in my head. Is it Mississippi?

CONCLUSION

This week's trivia was a close competition with Ludlow managing to hang on as champion for at least another week. Clearly, though, neither contestant follows SEC football. We'll see you next week.

South Carolina was in the Metro Conference before the ACC, except for football, where they remained an Independent.

I meant before the SEC, they were in the Metro.
