Bobby Flay at wine festival
Tickets for events at the 2009 BB&T Charleston Food + Wine Festival went on sale Aug. 28. Celebrity chef Bobby Flay of the Food Network, Mesa Grill, Bar Americain, and his latest, Bobby's Burger Palace, will preside over a charity luncheon. Raffle tickets also will be sold ($25 each or five for $100) for a chance to cook with Flay at his burger demo. Charleston's premiere chefs continue with the always sold-out "Dine A Rounds"; also, a new wine auction has been added and a legendary evening in the Lowcountry with an all-star lineup of Charleston's culinary talent are just a few of the stellar events on the menu this year. For tickets and more information, go to www.charlestonfoodandwine.com.
Fish goes Chinois
Fish Restaurant and Patrick Properties are in the home stretch to reopen their newly renovated and expanded space. Fish opens to the public for dinner Sept. 11.
Lunch will be served 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Dinner will be served Monday-Saturday, starting at 5:30 p.m. Weekend bar service will be available until 2 a.m., and guests can dine at the bar until 11 p.m.
Lunch will feature a spin of the Chinese classic moo shu pork — think Chinese tacos or wraps — and its complete lunch and dinner menus are under the hands of executive chef Nico Romo, who will continue the French-Asian inspiration and contemporary flare. Fish is located at 442 King St. For reservations, call 722-FISH (0406) or visit www.fishrestaurant.net.
Green Fair
The S.C. Aquarium will be the location for the Charleston Green Fair, a green tie optional event with a mission to raise funds for Lowcountry Earth Force and the South Carolina Sustainable Seafood Initiatives. Vince Graham of I'On will be the guest speaker. This event is open to anyone over the age of 21 and will be held 7-10 p.m. on Sept. 25. The aquarium is located at 100 Aquarium Wharf. The cost is $50. Abe's Oyster House
It's a race to the finish as Abe's Oyster House attempts the finishing touches for its expected grand opening this week. Located in the former Luna Rossa pizza and gyros spot, Abe's offers oysters, casual fare and flat-screen televisions for all your sports-fix needs. Abe's will be cracking them open at 713 Coleman Blvd., Mount Pleasant, 884-0225.
Roper opts for food court
Rob Young, The Post and Courier's lunch counter columnist, recently reported on his visit to Roper Hospital's newly renovated cafeteria. Look for a global menu, a sushi bar on Wednesdays, wing bar on Thursdays, a 30-plus item salad bar and come fall, a Tex-Mex station. Milk from hormone-free cows, eggs from cage-free chickens, nutritional information and a daily changing menu tempt workers and visitors alike.
Guests are welcome, and the cafeteria serves breakfast 6:30 a.m.-10 a.m.; lunch 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and dinner 4 p.m.-1 a.m.
See you at the Rendezvous
There will soon be another location to cheer the home team when Rendezvous Bar and Grille opens a location on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston.
An opening date has not been determined. Stay tuned.

Abe's Oyster House - horrible .. sliders were burnt .. most every soup / chowder has so much salt you'd have blood pressure trouble within 24 hours .. fish was delivered lukewarm cloding in on room temperature .. french fries were soggy .. service was fair .. bill was modest .. food was worse than what the military fed me on bivouac .. noise was very loud because there's no acoustical panels nor carpeting .. a lot of shrill cackling .. if you wanna just get bombed, okay then .. never go back .. never
