S.C. officials: Voter sign-up sets record

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

COLUMBIA — South Carolina election officials say a record-setting 2.5 million residents have registered to vote and that a record has been set for absentee ballots issued.

The State Election Commission said Tuesday that registration is up by 310,000 since the beginning of the year.

The commission also says it has issued 218,000 absentee ballots and that has shattered the record 169,000 issued in the 2004 general election.

Election Commission spokesman Chris Whitmire says 161,983 absentee votes have been cast, and that bests the 2004 total of 161,000.

And how many of these 'new' voters are illegals?

Nope, many are just tired of the Republicans!

Will that 19 year old be able to cast more than one vote? NO! Can the dead vote? NO! Can illegals vote? NO!

So calm down and stop freaking out, it is going to be OK. Come on over to the light you might just find that life is pretty good over hear. Less fear, less hate and a lot more tolerance!

Even for people that are less sane than others (wink wink).

An Ohio judge ruled that the homeless can list a park bench as a valid address. How ridiculous is that? That means voting without a valid ID or address. Since when do they deliver mail to a park bench? Illegally registered people can vote absentee. Ohio had a week where you could register and vote the same day. That means no proof and no checking out your information. Who is to say that my 3 yr old neice hasn't already voted in Ohio via absentee ballot? They called and said she was registered. How is that not fraud?

Coolfreakbeans:
So whats your answer? Deny an American citizen the right to vote? That speacks to me of Nazism, not American.

I believe you should have a verifable address and an ID. Is that really too much to ask for? You have to have an ID for everything else. Otherwise how could they keep track of who voted and didnt? Like I said, my 3 yr old neice in Ohio is registered to vote! WTH?

BTW mkris we already deny certain citizens of the right to vote. Like convicted felons.

I have to say I love that this election is so heated and energetic. Record registrations? Thats awesome. It shows that people are getting passionate about their beliefs. I agree spanker- 1 vote for 1 person. Honestly I thought a lot of the stuff on the news(regarding registration fraud) was being inflated. That is until my neice keeps getting calls and they say she registered to vote. Play by the rules people. Be passionate, engage in lively debate,VOTE, just don't cheat!

It sounds like someone pulled the ole' phone book trick in Ohio. Yet, Cool is your 3 yr. old neice really going to vote?

See at some point it becomes a non-issue. The checks and balances do work.

What about illegal voter purging in Georgia?

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/26/v...

Didn't that happen in Florida 8 years ago?

http://www.thenation.com/doc/20040517/pa...

Come to think about it, it did!

Cool, North Carolina also has one-stop voting where you can register and vote on the same day. You just have to have a driver's license or an bill stating your address. I understand what you are saying about the park bench, but whose to say that homeless people don't have a state issued ID or something.

Posted by coolfreaknbeans on October 29, 2008 at 3:25 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Lady-The judge actually said they can use a park bench for the address. I wasnt being funny or snide. The state will not issue an ID with a sidewalk as an address.
Spider- As I said before, who is to say the same person who "registered" her didnt have her "vote" early or by absentee ballot. Keep in mind the laws in Ohio are WAY more lenient than here in SC.

Cool, you make a good point and I didn't even think about that.

More ignorant voters to empty the coffers. Scary!
The end of the Republic is nearing.
