Re-elect Henry Brown
Republican Henry E. Brown Jr. emphasizes his strong record of constituent service during four terms representing the 1st District in the U.S. House. But his good work goes beyond helping constituents. He has been a strong supporter of national defense and a devoted advocate for America's military veterans. And as a member of the House Transportation Committee, he has an important role in shaping national transportation policy.
It's an increasingly important job, as the recent fuel crisis has demonstrated. During his next term, Rep. Brown wants to help lead the effort for a comprehensive infrastructure program, including interstate improvements, port development and commuter rail. Each is important to the district and the state.
Closely related to that goal is the need for a new national energy policy — one that seeks greater production from a variety of sources. Rep. Brown has expanded his early support for offshore drilling to a wide range of possibilities, including nuclear power and alternative energy. "We've got to reach a compromise with what's good for the environment and what's good for our quality of life," he says. He correctly views the absence of a substantive energy policy as a national security issue, as dollars are transferred from the U.S. to oil-rich nations that don't necessarily share our interests.
Rep. Brown has supported the administration's war on terror, including the surge in Iraq. He contends that fighting terrorists on their home turf has helped keep the U.S. safe from another 9/11.
Major challenges face Congress, including the war on terror, the turbulent economy and the pending necessity of entitlement reform. Rep. Brown brings an informed view to those issues, based on his many years of public service in Congress, the state Legislature and in his hometown of Hanahan, as well as his long experience as a businessman. His record of service and commitment says he deserves another term.
