The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce's Education Foundation has awarded Anita Zucker of The InterTech Group Inc. its Champions for Education Award to honor the contributions of her late husband, Jerry Zucker, and the contributions her family has made to improve education. The foundation also recognized four local employers with Business Education Partnership Awards: BP America Inc.'s Cooper River plant; First Citizens Bank; Mr. Sign; and Giant Cement Co.

Tammie C. Hoy, executive director of the Lowcountry Housing Trust, has received a 2008 Honor Award for Service to the Community and Design Profession from the American Institute of Architects' Charleston chapter.

The South Carolina Research Authority's SC Launch! program was one of six recipients nationwide of a 2008 Excellence in Technology-Based Economic Development Award from the State Science and Technology Institute.

LS3P Associates Ltd.'s Image Studio received three awards at American Society of Interior Designers' Carolinas Chapter Design Specialty Awards. The studio received honor and merit awards, respectively, in the corporate project category for Copper Station Holdings in Ridgeland and Greystar Real Estate Partners in Charleston. Also Katie Schroer, LS3P's director of corporate communications, and Cameron Wilson, principal and vice president, received the 2008 media award for publicity and marketing communications contributions to the chapter.

Dr. Sarvotham "Sam" Kini, associate professor and residency director for emergency medicine residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, has been awarded the International Excellence in Teaching award and a service award by the American Academy of Emergency Medicine India.

Gregg Varner, director of solid waste and recycling for Charleston County, was named 2008 Executive of the Year by the local chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals.

Tim Dangerfield, former chief operating office of the state Commerce Department, has been named a trustee emeritus on the College of Charleston's board of trustees. He served on the board from 1988 until 2003, and was vice chairman from 1998 until 2002. He is the president of TD Consultants LLC and was chief operating office of R and H Maxxon, a chain of 53 convenience stores. He graduated from the college in 1976.
