15-year-old shot on Johns Island
By Prentiss Findlay
Roberto Valdez, 15, of John's Island, died Saturday from a gunshot wound, Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten said.
Valdez received the fatal wound while sitting in a car at a friend's house on John's Island, Wooten said. He was pronounced dead by Charleston County EMS at 6:23 p.m., Wooten said. The Charleston County Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances of his death, she said.
"We're not sure about the circumstances. There was no indication of a fight, and it doesn't appear that somebody deliberately shot him," Wooten said.
