The Society for Marketing Professional Services' Palmetto Chapter has been formed to represent the architectural, engineering, and construction industries in the Charleston, Columbia, and Myrtle Beach areas. Its 2008-09 board of directors includes Jennifer Eaves of Liollio Architecture, president; Natalie J. Lawrence of WPC Engineering, president-elect; Amy Riley, Thomas & Hutton Engineering, secretary; and the office of treasurer, shared by Rhodes White of White Consulting, Sam Hayes of Arcadis and Bill Vicary of Thomas & Hutton Engineering.
Cory Lynch of Sequence Investment Partners has completed the Series 27 exam and training. Completion of the exam is required for chief financial officers of all Financial Industry Regulatory Authority member firms.
Matt Person, Cyril Prikazsky and Craig White of HITT Contracting Inc. have received accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program.
Coastal Commodities has formed an affiliation with MF Global, a full-service commodity and introducing brokerage firm that specializes in exchange-traded futures and options. Coastal Commodities is owned by James R. Clifford, who also is a registered principal with First Allied Securities.
Twin Rivers Capital LLC and HJB Construction Inc., both of Charleston, recently completed the development of a Family Dollar retail store in Jacksonville, Fla.
The city of Charleston's Local Development Corp. recently received a $400,000 loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration to further capitalize its micro-loan program, which can provide small businesses with loans of to up $35,000.
The Trident Workforce Investment Board has appointed four new members for the 2008-09 year.
Steven Brower is an owner and partner in Carolina Starches, a supplier of potato starch derivatives; Dottie Karst is owner of staffing firm Charles Foster Co.; Tommy Pruitt is government communications and public relations director of armored-vehicle manufacturer Force Protection Industries Inc.; and Angela Washington is human resources manager for chemicalmaker Rhodia.
The board also elected three members representing Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties to its executive committee. Lou DuBon, senior human resources manager at AGFA Materials Corp., is chairman; Jan Cappellini, principal and director of operations for Alternative Staffing Inc., is vice chair; and Jennifer Hook, senior human resources generalist for American LaFrance LLC was elected second vice chair.
Debbie Fisher has opened Handsome Properties, a boutique firm focused on luxury real estate. It is at 102 Church St. in Charleston.
