Dorchester County sheriff's deputies arrested several people on stolen-property and weapons charges in the Sullivans Landing Road area after following up on a tip about pipe bombs.

The pipe bombs had destroyed junked cars earlier this year near Geddisville Road, a couple of miles south of U.S. Highway 17A on the way to Cottageville, sheriff's Capt. Tom Marshall said. On Tuesday, aircraft surveillance of the nearby Sullivan's Landing Road area led to the discovery of two all-terrain vehicles, a mini-tractor sized riding lawn mower and lawn equipment.

The riding lawn mower was stolen from Colleton County and one of the ATVs from another state, Marshall said. The second ATV was hot-wired, but its origin is unknown.

Deputies on the ground arrested several suspects. Stephen Burbage, 29, of Adams Run was riding a stolen all-terrain vehicle when deputies caught him, a release says. Burbage also had an SKS rifle, a sawed-off shotgun, a .380-caliber handgun and a machete.

Matthew Perry, 24, also of Adams Run was arrested nearby on outstanding explosives-related charges, the release says. A man walking through the area, 26-year-old Bryan Murray of Summerville was found to have a 9 mm handgun that he wasn't allowed to have because of previous felonies on his record, according to the release.

Lisa Brownlee, 36, of Ridgeville was stopped driving her vehicle, because of a road check and perimeter set up in the target area, the release says. Deputies found a stolen handgun in her car after she gave them permission to search it.

The Sheriff's Office listed the following charges: Burbage, bombmaking, burglary and escape; Perry, bombmaking and burglary; Murray, unlawful carrying of a firearm; and Brownlee, receiving stolen goods, unlawful carrying of a pistol and possession of a stolen pistol.

Amazing! Maybe our law enforcement needs to start doing more road checks. I for one wish they would.

They need to do a random check for a couple of hours a day at different locations.

Arrested, out on bond, back to their old ways. Arrested, out on bond, back to their old ways. The cycle begins. The police did their jobs, the court system wont.

Thats what I was thinking kontact. What in the hell were they up to? With the newer anti-terrorism laws wouldnt they face a charge like that? They were making pipe bombs? And quite heavily armed. I'm with you 512c,I'm glad this didnt result in some sort of stand off. Good Job to the Po Po.
