State Fair opens 12-day schedule
COLUMBIA — The 139th South Carolina State Fair opened a 12-day run Wednesday afternoon, with plenty of exhibits, rides and food.
The fair runs through Oct. 19.
This fair includes an exhibit from the Smithsonian called "Key Ingredients: America by Food." The Humanities Council South Carolina is sponsoring the exhibit.
T.J. Wallace told The State newspaper that the exhibit includes American food traditions, including home cooking, festivals and feasts and holiday traditions.
The newest delicacy this year is fried corn on the cob.
There also will be plenty of the usual favorite fare: giant turkey legs, cotton candy, Polish sausage, barbecue ribs, chicken on a stick, corn dogs, pizza, hamburgers and elephants ears.
And of course, there will be dozens of rides, including roller coasters, the merry-go-round and other favorites.
