BEHIND BARS
Last weekend, I thought it was time to go to West Ashley to check out some bars that I haven't written about, so I visited two places Saturday night.
The first stop was Little Pearlz Oyster Bar, 9 Magnolia Drive. The other Pearlz is downtown, on East Bay Street.
We walked in and were greeted very promptly by a bartender named Kevin. He was efficient and courteous.
Pearlz has a fantastic selection of beers. Its happy hour during the week, featuring $3 house liquors, $3 house wines and $5 martinis, should not be missed. Also of note a dozen oysters are only $6.95.
Our next stop was directly next door at Voodoo, 15 Magnolia Road. I was immediately drawn to their very eccentric and warm decor.
They boast $1 jello shots and a mango infused tequila, which is very popular. They also have 8 choices of tacos to choose from.
The only disappointing part of our experience came when we sat down and were never greeted by a cocktail server. If you don't mind bellying up to the bar, give voodoo a try.
Red Sky Opens
Brooke Ryan, from the 95-SX morning show, attended the opening of Red Sky with me.
This is a new incarnation of a staple restaurant at 1001 Landfall Way on Johns Island.
While we were treated to admittedly good food, I, of course, was more interested in the beverage selection. Chef Bolus told us they feature a remarkable list of infused liquors at incredibly reasonable prices. Their wine list also features wines from all over the world at nonresort pricing as well.
Because it was opening night, the room felt stark with little art work. But, if you're in that neck of the woods, stop by.
Healthy Cocktails
Working out 2 times a day has proven to be a bit more helpful in losing weight. It would seem that this is the only way to get the last 20 pounds off.
I have to stay focused, and I hope to have it off just in time for the holiday season. Not only will I be attending events, I will be hosting several parties this season. I mean a good host can NOT not try the food right? I'm in trouble.
This week's healthy cocktail is a follow up from last week. We received several inquiries about the specific brand of seltzer water that mixes well with vodka. It is called Vantage and the flavor is mixed berry, not cranberry. Give it a try and let us know how you enjoyed it.
