Fire destroys W. Ashley garage

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

A fire that started while a man was working on racing cars burnt down a garage at a West Ashley home Sunday afternoon, St. Andrews Public Service District firefighters said.

Crews went to the home on Mona Avenue, near Glendale Drive in the Springfield subdivision, at 1:41 p.m., Capt. Ray Gorham said. They found the garage in flames and spent about 15 minutes putting the fire out.

Gorham said the fire appeared to be an accident. A man who had been working on the cars suffered some scalding to his hands and told authorities that he thinks a fuel leak started the fire.
