James H. "J.J." Messervy, auditor-elect for Dorchester County, has joined the accounting firm of Jarrard Nowell & Russell LLC as an associate. He will serve in the position until he is installed as auditor in the summer of 2009. Previously he was an agent with for Prudential Carolina Real Estate. He has a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of South Carolina.

Automotive

John Sinclair has joined Gene Reed's Automax as sales manager. He previously was at Gene Reed Toyota.

B.J. Self has joined Glasspro as a technician. He has more than six years experience in the automotive glass industry

Banking

Nancy Whitson has joined South Carolina Bank and Trust as a mortgage banker. She has 17 years of experience in the mortgage lending industry and will at 46 Broad St. in Charleston.

Omar Ramberan has joined SunTrust Bank's commercial division in Charleston as vice president and client relationship manager, specializing in businesses with sales of less than $5 million. Previously he was with Wachovia Bank. He has a bachelor's degree from The Citadel.

Education

Andre Barbosa, Sandra Brett, Kevin Hoth and Ann Marie have joined The Art Institute of Charleston.

Barbosa is an adjunct faculty member in the graphic design department. He has an undergraduate degree from the Cooper Union and a graduate degree from City University of New York. Brett is a faculty member in the art and design program. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in fine arts from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Hoth is a faculty member in the art and design program. He has master's degree in fine arts in photography from the University of Washington in Seattle. Marie is an adjunct professor in the culinary program. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and a master's degree in fine arts from Clemson University. She is a certified chef de cuisine, certified chef educator and a registered nurse.

Engineering

Marty Johnson has joined Stantec as a structural engineering designer. He previously was with Berenyi Inc. He has a degree in civil and environmental engineering from The Citadel.

WPC Engineering has made several appointments at its Charleston branch. Lori Rogalski was named office manager. She had been corporate marketing administrator, and she has a bachelor's degree from Kent State University. Kylie Page was named geotechnical department manager. She has more than 10 years of experience in civil engineering and has a bachelor's degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Justin Peterson has been named staff professional with the construction materials testing department. He has master's degrees in business administration and civil engineering from Clemson University. He also has a bachelor's degree from Clemson.

Health care

Dr. William Basco has been appointed director of general pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina. He has degrees from Tulane University and Louisiana State University Medical School. He has been with MUSC for 11 years and has served as director of Frontiers in Pediatrics.

Todd Gallati has been named president and chief executive officer of Trident Health System effective Oct. 27. He previously was president and CEO of Gulf Coast Medical Center in Panama City, Fla. He has more than 19 years experience. He has a bachelor's degree from Florida State University and master's degrees in business administration and health care administration from the University of Florida.

Investigative

Michael Gordon has joined Charleston Investigative Associates LLC. He recently retired from the Charleston Police Department, where he served as a detective sergeant of the major crimes unit. He has a liberal arts degree from Regents College and a criminal justice degree from Trident Technical College.

Nonprofit

Emily Rybinski has joined the Charleston Symphony Orchestra as director of marketing and public relations. She has a bachelor's degree from Denison University and a master's degree in arts administration from Carnegie Mellon University. Previously, she was with the IMG Artists' dance division in New York.

Ivan H. Lund has joined East Cooper Community Outreach as disaster preparedness coordinator. He is a retired U.S. Navy master chief and worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency for 10 years.

Audrey Good has joined the Charleston Symphony Orchestra as second horn. She has a bachelor's degree in horn performance from the University of Illinois. She most recently studied at Rice University in the studio of William VerMeulen.

Real estate

Thomas H.P. Kennedy has joined Four Corners Land & Investment Real Estate LLC as an associate focusing on restaurant sales, construction management and development. He has a bachelors degree from Washington & Lee University and a master's degree in business administration from The Citadel. He previously was director of facilities development for Sticky Fingers RibHouse.

Georgia Bell and Becky Johnston have joined Keller Williams Realty as an agents in the Broad Street office. Bell has been in the real estate industry for 8 years. Johnston is an Accredited Buyer Representative and a Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist with more than 30 years of experience.

Restaurant

Jim Walker and Kristyn Schebil have been promoted at The Old Village Post House in Mount Pleasant. Walker is chef de cuisine. Previously, he was sous chef. He has more than 10 years experience in the culinary industry and is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Schebil is assistant manager. Previously she was group dining and events coordinator. She has a bachelor's degree from Charleston Southern University.
