Margo Karolides of Blu Gorilla Tattoo and her 'Freddy Krueger' portrait tattoo.

For this week's "Here, Listen to This," we caught up with some of Charleston's tattoo artists to find out what they are listening to.

We wanted to identify their art with their name — something we neglected to do in the Sept. 18 edition of Preview — and find out what music inspires them. We contacted all of the local tattoo shops, and here's a sampling from those who participated. These folks include Dave Marcotte of Lucky 7's Tattoos, Kirk Wilken of Holy City Tattoo and Blu Gorilla Tattoo artists Margo Karolides-Hawkins and Tim Dennis.

If you're interested in tattoos, you can check out more of these artists' work at their Web sites: www.lucky7stattoo.com, www.blugorilla.com or www.holycitytattoo.com. Also, check out these Myspace pages: www.myspace.com/holycitytattoo, www.myspace.com/blugorillatattoo, or www.myspace.com/lucky7stattoo.

Now, time for some music opinions.

Johnny Cash — "God Is Gonna Cut You Down"

Dave: Great American music. There is justice in this world.

Kirk: I love some Cash. I don't know about the clap beat behind it. The sparse guitar is nice though.

Check out this black and white, celebrity driven video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e0EQlQXoEo.

Or simply use these keywords when on the Youtube: "Johnny," "Cash," "God" and "Cut"

Lil' Wayne ft. Birdman — "Stuntin' Like My Daddy"

Margo: My ears are bleeding now. Thanks.

Tim: I tattoo this guy.

For little ear bleeding action by Lil' Wayne, go to www.youtube.com/watch?v=_81U4ngh4tc or use the keywords "Wayne," "Daddy" and "Birdman."

Memphis May Fire — "Cowbell's Making A Comeback"

Kirk: I hate this. I really do ... they ruin it by cashing in on all the current "underground" musical trends. Screaming vocals. Clean vocals. Screaming vocals again. I'm sure-15 year-olds everywhere love this.

See if you agree or disagree with Kirk by using the keywords "Memphis," "Fire" and "Cowbell's" or using this address: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtGobkEMBsg.

Red Hot Chili Peppers — "Suck My Kiss"

Dave: High energy funk and my all time favorite band.

Catch this 1992 clip at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Joqf35Pn2cI or use the keywords "Red," "Chili," "Peppers" and "Suck" as your guide.

Skid Row — "18 and Life"

Margo: There was a time guys with long hair and makeup were the bees knees. That was then, now we have emo, where guys wear makeup and their little sister's jeans and cry a lot. I'll take hair bands any day.

Watch Sebastian Bach (the heavy metal one) emote at www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Xd8ykpZkwA or surf the Web using "Skid," "Row" and "Life" as your guide.

Ice Cube — "Today Was a Good Day"

Dave: Favorite rap artist ... brings back good times growing up in Los Angeles.

The keywords "Cube," "Day," and "Today" or this link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4RY-eJgHHs will remind people of the Ice Cube that gave Dave a flashback.

Beatles — "Helter Skelter"

Dave: Timeless … rock and roll wouldn't be what it is without the Beatles.

Margo: Isn't Manson up for parole soon?

Watch a fan-made video of the Fab Four at www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM9KRpEkGfY or use the keywords "Beatles" and "Skelter."

Cure — "Lovesong"

Kirk: Who doesn't like The Cure? I wrote poetry on black paper with a black pen once. "Oh lonely moon." What was that about?

Revisit a time when sadness and pain were the only way to get happy with the help of the keywords "Cure" and "Lovesong" or simply cut-n-paste this address: www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4SZhumbv0s.

Bee Gees — "How Deep is Your Love"

Kirk: I bet girls used to drop 'em to this back in the day. I love five part vocal harmonies, don't you? Doesn't everybody? I've heard this every time I'm at the dentist, man. My mom loves this I bet.

Dave: Was cool in the '70s, not a timeless classic for me

For more Bee Gee action, visit www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGxr_79392M or use the keywords "Bee," "Gees," "Deep" and "Love."

Social Distortion — "Ball And Chain"

Margo: We did surf trips down to Sebastian, Fla., every weekend in high school. My mom thought I was at a sleep-over instead of two states away. Sorry mom, but the waves are way better there.

Tim: Reminds me of my ex-wife.

To the not-so silky voice of Mike Ness, use the keywords "Social," "Distortion," and "Ball" or simply visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cf6k4yJyv0.
