Farrah Hoffmire

Farrah Hoffmire

"My organic process is many different facets. I don't ever just want to do one thing ... but I'll always paint, I know it will always be a part of my life." -Farrah Hoffmire

Farrah Hoffmire is a painter, a documentary maker and a seller of goat cheese that she makes from scratch. She wakes up early, milks the goats, works on the farm, does some film work and then goes home to edit. At night, she paints. She was recently a featured artist at Kulture Klash 3, where she painted in front of more than a thousand people.

After traveling the country, going to school and working at MUSC for two years, Farrah became disturbed by the medical model and wanted to make a documentary about it.

During that time, she became a certified yoga teacher and her company, Organic Process was born. Farrah started having her work featured in art shows and began producing art events.

She says her work is expressionistic, but she doesn't plan out what she will paint before it appears on the canvas.

Her work has many layers to it, she says.

"People always want to know what my stuff means. I don't really enjoy talking about my work because I don't have anything to say really. It comes from my emotions," she says. "I don't try to change it. I don't know what it means or what it's trying to say. I just let it come and hope that people appreciate it."

Next Event: Dec. 6. Hecho a mano (made by hand) at Kudu Coffee, 4 Vanderhorst Street. 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Web site: www.organicprocess.com.

Birth date and place: July 1971 in Summerville.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Psychology, College of Charleston, 2001.

Family: Husband, Mitchell Davis; dog, Blue; cat, Natalie; Brother, Baird Hoffmire.

Cost range for artwork: $200-$350.

Thoughts about people projecting their feelings onto her paintings: That's what I expect people to do. Whatever you get out of it, it really doesn't matter what the artist was thinking.

Interesting tidbit: I changed my name to Farrah (my middle name) when I was 30. My first name is Brandy.

Bryce Donovan: It Beats Working...

A couple of weekends ago, my wife and I went hiking (notice I took my wife with me) (and we actually went hiking) in the mountains of North Carolina. It was during that time, surrounded by vast amounts of open space and the gentle sounds of nature, that I had a chance to reflect on some things, most notably, how much I missed cable television.
