We asked three area wine purveyors to make general recommendations for Thanksgiving dinner wines, and for a specific wine under $12.

--Jamie Bolton, wine associate at Total Wine, West Ashley: Pinot Noir for red and Gewurztraminer for a white. Under $12, she likes 2007 Blue Flame Pinot Noir (France), $9.99.

--Michael Franke, owner of O'Hara & Flynn, downtown Charleston: Whites such as a Sauvignon Blanc or white blends such as Gewurztraminer/Riesling/Chardonnay. Under $12, he likes Castillo de Molina Sauvignon Blanc (Chile), $7.99.

--Paul Haire, specialty team leader at Whole Foods: Whites over reds, especially a Pinot Grigio, a good middle-of-the-road choice with medium body. Under $12, he likes Pazo Serantellos Albarino (Spain), $8.99.
