Co-workers help cancer patient

Staff report
Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Celadon Home employees have organized an oyster roast to help raise funds to help pay for a co-worker's cancer treatments. They're calling it For the Love of George.

George Misoyianis of Johns Island, a sales associate, learned his cancer came back after a masseur found an irregular lump in his neck.

"It makes you think how this could be any of us," said Celadon store manager Marina Cadley.

Misoyianis, 58, a designer, has been associated with Celadon Home for years but became a full-time employee six months ago. He has insurance, but it doesn't cover the full cost of his chemotherapy treatments. Misoyianis said he was grateful for his co-workers' gesture and it made him feel as if he had an extended family at work.

"To know him is to love him. He's just one of those people," Cadley said.

The oyster roast will be 2-6 p.m. Dec. 7 at The Nut House Pecan Farm on Wilson Cemetery Road off of Doar Road in Awendaw.

The event will feature live entertainment from Gigi Dover and the Big Love, a silent auction for items donated by The Charleston RiverDogs, Michael Moran, Soif Wine Bar, Mike's Bikes, Stephen Herlong and Associates and more.

Tickets are $30 each or two for $50 and can be purchased at Celadon Home.
